Nailsea Indoor Bowls Club – Pring & Co Charity Cup

Indoor mixed pairs, three bowl tournament, Sunday April 7th, 2019.

The Mixed Pairs Charity tournament at the Nailsea Indoor bowls club was a great success. It was an exciting day of bowls with Group A having a thrilling four-way single bowl play off, for a place in the final. There was a packed audience which sent the bowlers stress levels through the roof; however Ros Passingham held her nerve and had the winning bowl. So she and her husband Trevor met Group B winners Barbara Sheppard and Peter Onion in the final.

The final was a tense affair and both sides were sportingly supported by the knowledgeable crowd but as the 50-minute bell rung it was 6 all. Another single ball play off! It was a fitting end to an exhilarating tournament. Just like a penalty shoot-out. The umpire, Mr Richard Jeffries decision was final, and the inaugural Pring & Co Charity cup was won by Peter Onion and Barbara Sheppard. The cup was presented by Mr Stephen Pring the main sponsor and a well-known local estate agent.

The Event raised over £1500.00 to date of which almost £200 was taken on the raffle, with kind donations from Dutch company Brabantia with its UK site based in Nailsea and Six-way Sports based in Clevedon.

It is hoped more money will be donated via our just giving page and the final donation can then be given to the Memory Café at the Tithe Barn Trust. The Memory Cafe offer specialist activities and events, supporting local dementia sufferers and their carer’s.

Dementia a very cruel disease and is devastating for both the people who have dementia and those who provide care. It is progressive; the journey is frightening, stressful and socially isolating. It is often described as the nightmare that doesn’t end.
